To improve community health issues as they affect seniors with the following success measures:

  • safe medication books are distributed and in use
  • concerns are identified
  • models for solutions are developed

The committee was formed in 1996 to continue monitoring Long Term Care reform. It has taken over the functions of the Medications Committee and is prepared to play an active role in developing a new Integrated Health System in partnership with others and the District Health Council.

Our workshop report on Safe Medications shows a plan to promote the safe use of medications by seniors. Dr. Joseph Tidales report Talking Turkey is included.

Over 8000 medication record books have been distributed. A paper was presented on our medication activities to the annual meeting of Hospital Pharmacists and was well received. Two representatives participated in the Federal Round Table on Safe Medication Use in February. We met with Sarnia City alderman and the Mayor and made recommendations for the response to the Hospital Restructuring Commission. We will monitor the activities of the Community Care Access Centre.
