Manual for Teacher Advisor Program Healthy Issues for Youth: A Resource Manual for Teacher Advisor Program
This page was reviewed or revised on Tuesday, May 13, 2003.
Manual's Foreward
The development of the manual was an idea of the Lambton
County Student Wellness Committee (LCSWC) members. Because health education is
not a mandatory subject after grade 9, it was the committee's goal to see wellness
messages delivered through TAP (Teacher Advisory Program) programs in their schools.
The author of this Resource, Christine Preece is also the Student Wellness Advisor for the
Committee and she acknowledges the following students who brought this idea forward:
| Jamie Amlin, Brittany Brooker, Maria Chowdhery, Brad Harwood, Angie Logan, Jen Hyatt,
Tiffany Jacklin and Katie Whitehead. |
Introduction
The wellness manual has been specifically created for a teacher's use either in a
classroom or in a Teacher Advisor Program (TAP). There are 6 sections,
which focus on the following topics:
Each section has four components for the teacher to refer to. They are:
- In-Class Activities - This section consists of activities that a teacher can do with
students in the class.
- Other Supports - This section includes websites, personnel, and printed resources to
complement the topic area. It is in this section that you would find guest speakers,
videos and other health information.
- Community Service - This section lists agencies that a student can contact in order to
do their 40 hours of community service work.
- Extra-curricular Activities - This section offers idease that "TAP" groups can
work on together throughout the school semester (somewhat similar to a group project).
