This page was reviewed or revised on Wednesday, September 15, 2004.

There are few things more important than making sure that the water we drink and swim in is safe. Historically, water has played a significant role in the transmission of human diseases, such as typhoid fever, cholera, Hepatitis A, and many varieties of gastro-intestinal diseases.

Although we now take our water for granted, outbreaks of illness linked to drinking water and recreational water have occurred recently throughout Canada.

Community Health Services Department is involved with the bacteriological and chemical monitoring of area water, including Municipal water, well water, public pool and spa water and public beach water. Effective safe water control is vital to ensure that our water is kept safe for everyone.

For further details, or if you have any other questions related to safe water issues, contact your local public health inspector.
