Mission StatementTo ensure that school-aged children have access to child-centred nourishment opportunities through the work of supportive networking and community partnerships.
![]() The Lambton Breakfast Program was developed in 1999 in partnership with 11 community organizations and agencies; including, the County of Lambton, Lambton Health Unit, Lambton-Kent District School Board, St. Clair Catholic District School Board and St. Vincent dePaul. Originally there were with six (6) breakfast programs and by April 2000, eight (8) additional programs were added across Lambton County. To further meet the needs of children attending schools, the Snack Program was introduced at 10 additional schools in 2001. In 2003 the United Way joined with the Smart Start- Seed, Feed and Grow Initiative. Since then Breakfast and Snack Programs have become a vital part of student nourishment in 26 schools in Lambton County.
Student Nourishment Program (Breakfast Program) The Student Nourishment Program includes 3 of the 4 food groups and is offered before classes begin each morning. The menu must follow the Ontario Student Nourishment Guidelines. Student Snack Program This program offers snacks from 2 of the 4 food groups and is available at various times during the school day. The menu must follow the Ontario Student Nourishment Guidelines. If you are interested in starting a program at your school, County of Lambton School Nutrition Co-ordinator Leslie Palimaka will provide program information sessions to school councils or interested groups. Ministry of Child and Youth Services To access this Ontario program, complete an Intention of Application form that describes your program. In addition, an Annual Plan must be completed by your school co-ordinator. This form provides a detailed account of the school’s nutrition program. Applications are due in May of each year; funding is provided in September for the current school year. For the 2007-2008 school year, new school programs will not receive funding from South West Region. Breakfast for Learning: Breakfast for Learning (BFL) is a not-for-profit funding group that provides grant money to support school nourishment programs. Applications are available online and can be sent directly to BFL. Applications are due in October of each school year. Lambton Breakfast Snack Network: Our goal is to coordinate successful breakfast and snack programs in Lambton County. As well as linking with related programs and services in the community. To support all school coordinators with their effort in fundraising, volunteer recruitment, program applications, menu development and presentations.
