This is a sample of the types of food babies may eat at this age. Each baby is different. Some babies will not eat this much; others may want more and need a bit more. Start with smaller amounts and work up to larger amounts when your baby is ready to eat more food.  Offer solid foods before breast or bottle.

Examples of grain product include: iron-fortified infant cereal, whole grain crackers, whole grain toast, pasta and rice.

 

Prevent Choking

Give soft minced, diced table foods or finger foods that are safe in size and shape. Always watch infants when they are eating. Do not give your baby food that may cause choking: nuts (alone or in foods), hot dogs, seeds, pieces of raw vegetables, cheese cubes, small candies, popcorn, grapes or some dry cereals. Some food can be made safer by preparing them in different ways. For example, hot dogs diced or cut lengthways, grated raw fruit or vegetables or chopped grapes.
