CHECKLIST
When
breastfeeding, call for help if I
have questions or problems with breastfeeding such as:
- My
baby is not peeing (urinating) at least six (6) times in a 24-hour
period.
- My
baby is between 1-4 weeks old and is not having two (2) or more bowel
movements in each 24-hour period.
- My
baby is not attaching well to my breast or is not feeding well.
- My
baby is not gaining enough weight. A breast-fed baby may take 2-3 weeks
to regain birth weight and then gain 3-7 ounces per week or 1-1˝
pounds/month.
- I
think I may not have enough milk.
- My
baby is sleeping and difficult to wake up to feed, or my baby is
breastfeeding less than eight (8) times in 24 hours.
- My
breasts are hard and full (engorged) or I am having breast or nipple
pain; breastfeeding should not hurt.
- My
baby has yellow skin and eyes and is not feeding well.
- I
have a breast infection or have plugged ducts. Your breasts may have
hard, red or sore areas, or you may feel like you have the flu.
-
Call a public health nurse at 519 383-8331 ext. 3564, or toll-free
1-800-667-1839 if you have questions about this information or other
