Measles is an acute, highly communicable viral disease causing a high fever, conjunctivitis, caryza, cough, white spots on the throat and a characteristic red blotchy skin rash. Incubation Period10-21 days. TransmissionAirborne droplets from the nose and throat of infected persons. Period of communicabilityFour (4) days before rash to five (5) days after. TreatmentMonitor and treat symptoms. PreventionImmunization with MMR vaccine after first birthday and 4-6 years. |
