Rabies is a fatal, viral disease spread by saliva of an infected animal such as dog, cat, raccoon, fox, bat, livestock, etc.  Saliva can enter the body through a bite or scratch.  Owners are required by law to vaccinate pets against rabies.  Vaccinating pets is an important way to prevent the spread of rabies.
