The County of Lambton Community Health Services Department supports the Smoke-Free Ontario Strategy to eliminate tobacco related illness and death.
Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in Ontario. Every year, more than 13,000 Ontario residents, or about one person every 40 minutes, die from tobacco-related use.
According to the Canadian Community Health Survey (2009/10), 22.8% of Lambton residents (12 years and older) reported being daily or occasional smokers. The provincial rate is 18.9%.
Our goal is to reduce the use of tobacco products in Lambton County and work toward a Smoke-Free Ontario by:
• Preventing tobacco use, especially among youth
• Protecting non-smokers from second-hand smoke
• Providing cessation support for those smokers who want to quit
Living tobacco-free is a key part of keeping you and your family healthy.
