Stretch Break

This page was reviewed or revised on Monday, April 11, 2011 9:05 AM

After sitting for a long period of time, give yourself a break and stretch. Not only is it a great release for tension, stretching improves circulation to the working muscles, tendons and joints.

Take a break and loosen up.

  • Reach up to the ceiling while standing on your toes.
  • Shrug your shoulders a few times - roll them forward - roll them backward
  • Stretch your arms to the side and make circles with your arms. Repeat going in the opposite direction. Bend your knees while doing this stretch and avoid curving your back.
  • Bring your right ear toward your shoulder by gently bending your head sideways. After a few seconds, slowly straighten your head and bring your left ear toward your left shoulder.
  • Turn your head and look over your right shoulder. Bring it back to centre. Now turn your head and look over your left shoulder. Bring it back to centre.
  • Try to join your hands behind your back
  • Point your right toe, relax. Point your left toe, relax.
  • Touch your toes with your knees bent. Slowly try to straighten your legs. Stop when your fingers can no longer keep in contact with your toes. Straighten up slowly and support your back by resting your hands on the upper part of your thighs.
