At Work
For many of us, most of our waking hours are spent at work. So it is quite simple to see that the way we balance work and family has a great impact on our health.
Try a few of these tips to work a bit of a workout into your workday:
- Start with Active Transportation: walk, run, cycle, rollerblade or wheel to work
- Get off of the bus two stops sooner and walk the rest of the way
- Park at the far end of the parking lot and walk
- Use your break time to stretch as many of your body parts as possible
- Take the long way to the cafeteria
- At lunch, walk or run an errand
- Join an employee fitness program
- Start an employee walking group
- Deliver messages in person rather than using the phone or email
- Promote breaks during meetings
- Encourage your co-workers to stretch, walk or climb stairs
- Get off the elevator a few floors earlier and walk the rest of the way
- Trade your coffee break for a 10-minute walk
- Join a recreational activity with your co-workers
- Ask your employer for secure bicycle parking, lockers and change rooms
